From 26th to
30th January 2008, in the framework of Sigep, the
International Exhibition for artisan production of Ice Cream,
Pastry, Confectionary and Bakery, Rimini will welcome the second
edition of Sigep Bread Cup. The event will be organized by Rimini Fiera and coordinated by Club Arti e Mestieri. In the 2007 edition the competition involved more than ninety operators in the bakery industry. The participants included bakers and confectioners, high school students and foreign team members etc. who all volunteered to help in organizing and running the event. It embraces and involves the bakery industry world wide; it also stimulates and encourages growth through the exchange of know-how. It is a big event, a master bakers’ cup, which provides an excellent forum for people to meet and compare traditions from different countries world wide. In the past Sigep Bread Cup edition, eight teams competed for the title of best baker in Europe. The teams who took part were Israel, Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland, Germany, Belgium and Italy. Each team composed of four members all professionals in the baking industry. Three teams composed of eleven students from important vocational schools took part in the section dedicated to young bakers. More than 15.000 people visited Sigep 2007 and attend the live competitions and displays by the International Bakers competing. In particular the international delicatessens and their crafts were appreciated. Precious bakers’ hands produced 400 kilos of bread and cakes each day and showed around fifty different types of products to the professional and general public attending the exhibition. Thanks to the personal contribution given by those who tasted these products it was possible to donate a large collection of funds to the Association of Father Camillo Zaramella from Padua to assist them in their efforts to build a bakery in Mascarilla, Ecuador. |
