The following is just some of the training options to add to the knowledge gained from completing an apprenticeship. Your TAFE or trade school is a great place to find out about what is available

Training Ideas

There is heaps of training a qualified baker can do to further their career, and to keep the old brain tickin'.

If you are interested in progressing your knowledge or skills there are several options:

1. Food Technology, This is available through university's and tafe at various levels of study and is very helpful if you are interested in quality control/assurance or product development.

2. Baking Science, There is a correspondence course available through BRI Australia called the Science of Baking which is an American Institute of Baking Course adapted for the Australian market. Or the AIB offers courses in all aspects of baking if you can get to the States to participate.

3. Business/Management Studies, Good courses are available from Certificate to University Level and are very helpful if you are looking to owning your own business or getting in to management. Contact your local TAFE or university for information

Reference Books

One thing I have personally found in trying to learn more about baking is that just because it's published in a book doesn't mean it's correct. Here are some books about baking we can recommend as good resources:

Australian Bread making Handbook - BRI Australia

Baking Science and Technology - Pyler

The Richemont Craft School Series
